The Mid Mon Valley All Sports Hall of Fame annually honors senior scholar-athletes representing the eight school districts within the Mid Monongahela Valley. This evening the spotlight shines upon these young men and women who have made a difference in the classroom, in athletics, and in their communities.

Tonight we have the honor of saluting the first state champions in track and field from their respective high schools Monessen and Belle Vernon Area. Monessen High School’s Tarelle Irwin and Belle Vernon Area’s Matt Green carved their own niches in both school’s athletic histories after winning at the PIAA Track and Field Championships contested May 21-23.
Irwin, a senior, won the 200-meter Class AA state title in dominant fashion with a time of 22.25. He had placed third in the event in 2008. His closest competitor finished more than three-tenths of a second behind. Earlier this past spring, Irwin won the WPIAL Class AA championships in both the 100 and 200 meters. Tarelle, please come forward to receive our athletic achievement award.
Green, a sophomore, won the Class AAA state crown in the long jump with a career best leap of 23 feet, 7.5 inches. His closest rival finished 1.75 inches shorter. Earlier this past spring, Green won the long jump for the WPIAL title.
Green now has a shot of becoming the area’s first three-time state champion. Matt please come forward to receive our athletic achievement award
