History of Belle Vernon Area High School Football (1965-2010)
Steve Russell, superintendent of Belle Vernon Area School District and general chairman of the Mid Mon Valley All Sports Hall of Fame, has published History of Belle Vernon Area High School Football (1965-2010). The journal chronicles a historical perspective into BVA football.
Russell's background as a local historian, curator of photographs and aficionado of sports creates a vivid impression of the 45-year history of Leopard football. Many of the photographs in the text are from the archives of the Mid Mon Valley All Sports Hall of Fame collections. The monograph is divided into the era of each of the nine coaches who have brought a distinctive style to the school's football program. The book, which blends in quotes from coaches and players, rekindles memories for any fan of Pennsylvania scholastic football with BVA winning the WPIAL Class AAA championship in 1995. With an artist's cover of players and coaches, the six-by-nine inch booklet has more than 9,000 words and 25 pictures.
